Overview

Mercy San Juan Medical Center, a Dignity Health member, is a nationally recognized not-for-profit hospital located in Carmichael, California, serving the areas of north Sacramento County and south Placer County. The 370-bed facility is one of the region’s largest and most comprehensive medical centers, caring for more than 150,000 people each year and contains the only Comprehensive Stroke Center in the greater Sacramento region.

Responsibilities

This position requires registration with the California State Board of Pharmacy as a registered technician and training that demonstrates the knowledge of the legal restrictions on the activities of non-licensed personnel in a pharmacy, medical abbreviations; pharmacuetical terminology and calculations; aseptic technique in the preparation of intravenous admixtures and total parenteral nutrition; generic/trade names of medications. Special skills required includes the following: safe handling of antineoplastic/chemotherapeutic agents.

The incumbent is responsible for technical, clerical, and transportation duties for the department and is involved with the preparation, distribution and delivery of medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The technician must demonstrate competency in patient care for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. The technician may be required to work at all MHS facilities.

Qualifications

Minimum Required

  1. One year of acute care hospital pharmacy practice experience or a 6 week pharmacy technician externship at the hiring facility.

  2. Demonstrated knowledge of the legal restrictions on the activities of non-licensed personnel in a hospital pharmacy, medical abbreviations, pharmaceutical terminology and calculations, and generic/trade names of medications. Experience in the preparation of intravenous admixtures and antineoplastic/chemotherapeutic/hazardous medications.

  3. Candidates must have a PHRMTEC certification.

Education

Completion of an ASHP accredited Pharmacy Technician program is preferred

Training / Special Skills

• Experience working in a USP 797 clean room is preferable.

• Certified Pharmacy Technician from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board

Licensure

Registration with the California State Board of Pharmacy as a registered technician. CT PHRMTEC
