PBX Operators are responsible for answering and transferring all calls to the main PBX Switchboard for Northridge Hospital. The PBX Operators are frontline communications for the Hospital and are therefore expected to make customer service the number one priority. Strong verbal communications, and a proactive customer service skills are essential. PBX Operators are also responsible for handling emergency code communications and hospital computer base applications to support all department necessities.


  • Three (3) years experience in an outpatient setting as a Medical Office Receptionist performing similar duties or an equivalent amount of experience in a high-volume customer service role in another industry/environment working with referrals or scheduling surgeries.

  • High School diploma or equivalent .

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills are essential.

  • Keyboarding skills and the ability to utilize computer equipment and software are required as is experience with other types of standard office equipment.

  • Familiarity with an electronic practice management system is preferred.

  • Experience with multi-line phones/ACD phones preferred.

  • Medical terminology preferred. None required for this position.

  • This position is represented by SEIU-UHW

  • *The ideal candidate will work Saturdays to support the Saturday clinics*

  • Minimum 1 year experience, working on a high volume PBX Switchboard required.

  • Typing Skills, Customer Service for Telephone Communications required. N/A. N/A.

  • Current Fire Safety card required.
