Responsibilities

This position will provide intellectual-property support to the Barrow Innovation Center. Duties will include meeting with resident and attending physicians and other healthcare providers to discuss new inventions, conducting patentability analyses, drafting applications, and/or responding to office actions. This position is not a permanent post and will last only during the Spring and Summer months.

Qualifications

Requirements:

Completed at least two courses in intellectual-property law, including at least one patent law class.

Current law student or recent law-school graduate (Dec. 2018 or May 2019) with at least a BS in a technical field (engineering, biology, chemistry, etc.).

The BS degree must qualify the candidate to sit for the USPTO registration exam.

Completed at least two courses in intellectual-property law, including at least one patent law class.

Technical background, as described above in Education Section.

Preferred:

At least one semester prior experience in an academic, in-house, or private-practice setting working with inventors, conducting patentability analyses, drafting applications, and/or responding to office actions. Prior USPTO registration is highly desired.

Current law student or recent law-school graduate with at least a BS in biomedical engineering.

At least one semester prior experience in an academic, in-house, or private-practice setting working with inventors, conducting patentability analyses, drafting applications, and/or responding to office actions. Prior USPTO registration is highly desired. Technical background, as described above in Education Section.

Knowledge of USPTO, WIPO, and other patent-related databases for patent searching. Also, knowledge of the USPTO's EFS system would be preferred.

USPTO registered patent practitioner.
