Responsibilities

Upon referral provides professional Physical Therapy services including evaluations, planning individual patient care programs, and treatments. Demonstrates/uses current knowledge of principles and practices of Physical Therapy. Participates in job related departmental functions as an integral member of the patient care team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.1 On referral, by receipt of an MD order (out-patient) or within 24 hours (in-patient), evaluates patients by administering muscle, range of motion, neurological, gait and functional tests to determine impairment and disabilities. Develops a treatment plan and goals based on results of the evaluation and physician diagnosis; reassesses each Rx and makes appropriate changes/progressions in the treatment program according to the patient's status.

1.2 Administers safe direct patient care, utilizing established Physical Therapy procedures and techniques. Organizes the patient care time to meet established treatment goals by appropriate setting of priorities and accomplishing tasks competently within established productive standards, and is able to complete duties and responsibilities within established daily work hours. Delegates and supervises patient treatment done by PT support staff.

1.3 Instructs the family and patient in the treatment program and establishes an effective patient-therapist rapport to facilitate the achievement of treatment goals as evidenced by chart review and patient satisfaction feedback.

1.4 AS ASSIGNED: Is able to provide patient care, as evidenced by the competency completion, in one or more of the following specialty areas (as applicable): Hand Clinic, Burn Unit, Work Ready Program and/or Ergonomics Program.

1.5 Prepares, maintains, and transmits accurate, complete, and timely patient records in accordance with JCAHO guidelines, department standards (close of work day) and hospital in-patient standards (multi-disciplinary and discharge documents). Corresponds/confers appropriately with physicians (initial evaluation and discharge summaries), ancillary staff, other staff therapists, insurance companies (e.g., Medicare forms), etc. to ensure optimum patient care.

1.6 Assists colleagues and other hospital personnel willingly and promotes team relations in patient care. Attends/participates in staff meetings, student program (to include rotating primary preceptorship of students), safety, and QA/QI activities.

1.7 Is compliant with the hospital and departmental competencies and regulatory requirements.

1.8 Keeps abreast of current trends and other developments in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation as evidenced by participation and attendance of inservices, continuing education courses, and current professional publications.

1.9 Participates with other members of the department in housekeeping duties. Maintains neat, organized workspace. Maintains clean common areas, including waiting area, conference and staff room.

1.10 AS ASSIGNED: Represents department in hospital wide task force/committee (1 per year). Leads or participates in program development opportunities (1 per year). Attends and/or participates in patient care rounds (80% of assigned round attendance). Participates in inter-departmental/inter-disciplinary inservices and community activities (1/ year). Provides clinical coordination for student program as evidenced by clear communication with the schools and smooth scheduling of students and preceptors.

1.11 AS ASSIGNED: Participates in in-patient weekend rotation as scheduled.

Qualifications

Required

  • New graduate without experience acceptable, unless a specific number of years required due to the needs of the department at the time of the appointment.

  • Masters and/or Baccalaureate degree from a school of Physical Therapy accredited by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Physical Therapy Association or its equivalent.

  • BASIC LIFE SUPPORT-AHA (CT CPRBLS)

  • PHYSICAL THERAPIST (LIC PT)

Pay Range

$52.75 - $61.17/hour
