The Staff Nurse II is responsible for direct and indirect delivery of patient care for a wide variety of

patient population through the use of the nursing process and maintenance of the standards of

professional nursing practice. The Registered Nurse promotes compliance and support of policies andachieves trust in professional collegial relationships.   • Assesses patient and initiates Nursing Assessment. Identifies problems and formulates plan of care within the number of hours standard on the unit, ensuring that physician orders are implemented promptly and accurately. Care plan demonstrates use of nursing diagnosis, planned outcomes, and nursing judgment related to patient/family needs. Initiates discharge plan.

  • Identifies deviations from expected vital signs and lab tests; documents, reports and follows through on abnormal findings with physicians/nurses.

  • Documents nursing assessments and interventions accurately, clearly and concisely, evaluates and documents patient response and outcome to nursing interventions, and gives clear, concise, complete reports on patients.

  • Medication administration: Demonstrates knowledge of dosage, route, action, side effects and contraindication of medications. Administers medication and narcotics following hospital policies and procedures. Identifies drug interactions, knows antidotes/treatment for medication overdose and antidotes/treatment for medication infiltration. Calculates dosages accurately; double checks with RN regarding insulin. Properly dilutes medications for individual dose. Documents medication administration appropriately.

  • Sets priorities, organizes and completes care for assigned patients within shift; demonstrates ability to reorganize and reprioritize workload to meet changes in unit activity. Independently makes decisions; seek assistance in critical, complex situations; gives pertinent, accurate, concise, organized report; documents on record. Is cost conscious, i.e., efficiently uses supplies, adheres to patient chargeable billing system; performs within staffing guidelines as defined by the classification system. Adapts behaviors based upon guidelines of peer and Nurse Manager/Supervisor evaluations. Maintains confidentiality of patient related issues; intervenes to protect patient confidentiality; reports errors in practice standards to nursing management. Is accountable to standards set forth in the State Nurse Practice Act, California state law, by other regulatory agencies including JCAHO, and by professional nursing associations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid CA state RN license required

  • AHA - ACLS required

  • AHA - BLS required

  • One year critical care experience preferred

  • BSN preferred

Pay Range

$71.56 - $87.35 /hour
