Groundbreaking cardiac procedures at Dominican include the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure which allows for heart valve replacement without opening a patient’s chest.Dominican Hospital has forged significant partnerships with area hospitals to bring exceptional care to Santa Cruz County. The hospital offers a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) through a partnership with Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. Neurosurgery at Dominican is also offered through a partnership with Stanford Health Care.

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The chaplain's role is to provide pastoral care to patients, families and hospital personnel by assisting them to integrate the experience of illness, trauma and loss according to their own religious beliefs and convictions. The chaplain also works with community clergy, acting as a liaison between hospital and parish communities. The chaplain supports the values implicit in the mission and philosophy statement of the division and the Ethical and Religious Directives for Dignity Health Facilities.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • One year experience in hospital chaplaincy if CPE training was in a non-medical facility*

  • Must be ordained or professed in a religious community OR possess equivalent theological and pastoral education or experience

  • Must have endorsement from appropriate sponsoring party/faith tradition.

  • High level of interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients families and employees often during periods of crisis

  • One year of supervised training or experience in pastoral care in a patient environment.

  • Certification by National Association of Catholic Chaplains or National Association of Professional Chaplains or in final process*

Pay Range

$30.30 - $43.93 /hour
