About This Position
In keeping with the Marian Regional Medical Center healthcare philosophy, the Certified Phlebotomist - Outpatient is responsible for obtaining blood, urine, and culture specimens in the outpatient and draw station setting. Patients may range in age from newborn to geriatric and work will be performed in accordance with established procedures of Marian Regional Medical Center Laboratory, CLSI standards and State and Federal Regulations. Performs reception and clerical functions and routine repetitive specimen testing under the supervision of a licensed technologist. Rotates shifts, holidays, and weekends as needed. Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management following written notice.
Prior experience in a laboratory setting with focus on outpatient customer service.
Experience working in high volume and STAT conditions.
Experience successfully working well well without direct constant supervision while providing exceptional customer service.
Demonstrated competentence with the specimen collection process, proper blood sampling techniques and all devices utilized in the collection of those specimens.
State of California Phlebotomy certification-CPT 3 years experience in a laboratoy setting with a focus on outpatient customer service.
Knowledge of standard laboratory terminology is preferred.
1 year previous venipuncture experience.
Must complete required continuing education requirements to maintain State CPT I and CPR certifications.
High school and/or college chemistry, biology, or mathematics are highly desired.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions exactly, demonstrate and promote teamwork, work in a calm and conscientious manner under high volume and STAT conditions.
Ability to work well with or without direct constant supervision with rigid accuracy.
Knowledge of CLSI standards.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of the human venous system and anatomy and all venipuncture techniques.
Ability to draw high numbers of patients in an efficient, professional manner and increase productivity under high volume and STAT conditions.
Exceptional customer service skills.
Must have a valid and current California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I certificate.
Must have CPR certification at hire or complete certification requirements within the first 60 days of employment and maintain AHA BLS HCP CPR certification.
Prior experience in a laboratory setting with focus on outpatient services to include greeting and registering patients, collecting, processing, and handling a breadth of patients' samples, including miscellaneous reference tests,specialized kits, and samples requiring immediate, specific handling conditions. Experience should include accurate technical skills and exceptional customer service while working independently with little or no supervision. Competence should be demonstrated with specimen collection technique using a variety of age/condition specific collection devices, proper handling and processing of samples, and an understanding of registration protocols, including obtaining ABN's and collecting payment when required. 2 years experience as either a CPT or as a Laboratory Assistant in a clinical laboratory or a full service outreach laboratory setting. 3 years experience as either a CPT or a Lab Assistant in a full service outreach laboratory setting strongly preferred. 1 year previous venipuncture experience. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions exactly, demonstrate and promote teamwork, work in a calm and conscientious manner under high volume and STAT conditions. Ability to work well with or without direct constant supervision with rigid accuracy. Knowledge of CLSI standards.
